As a medical doctor, and scientist, Dr. Lanas’s research has focused on the adverse effects of NSAIDs on the gastrointestinal tract. He has led multiple pioneering medical research studies and clinical trials, drawing attention to the significant ulceration and bleeding that NSAIDs cause in the small intestine, and the fact that such damage typically goes undiagnosed.

Early in his career, he was visiting professor of gastroenterology at the University of Alabama, USA. He is former President of the Gastroenterology Association in Spain.

As a medical doctor and scientist, Dr. Scheiman focuses on acid-related disorders such as peptic ulcer disease and gastroesophageal reflux disease. He also studies the early diagnosis of gastrointestinal malignancies, particularly pancreatic cancer.

He has published on the cost-effective application of several new diagnostic approaches and therapies.
